What is BRIDGEit?
In 2011-12, NOKIA, Pearson Foundation and EZ Vidya partnered with government and CBSE schools in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to address four key challenges:
- “Lecture style” lessons were not equipping students with 21st Century thinking skills
- Students needed help transitioning from local language to English medium
- Teachers had few resources besides the textbook with which to enrich classroom instruction
- Teachers struggled to incorporate technology such as PC labs into their daily teaching
Using open-source NOKIA Education Delivery (NED) technology and content from Pearson Foundation, schools have beautifully addressed these challenges in a single school year. With support by EZ Vidya, NED has:
- Improved the quality of teaching by 31%
- Lessons changed from “lecture style” to “student centred”
- 10% more marks at NED schools compared with controls
- Teachers used an average of 158 digital media activities (7Gb content downloaded via 3G networks)
- Dramatically improved listening and speaking skills of students.
“Motivational levels have raised. Pupil showed active interest in learning the language with reference to listening & speaking skills. Students started uttering words /sentences in English. It is wonderful.”
